Time To Eat.

For the past long little while, I've sort of shunned blogging about food, and I didn't offer any explanation because honest, I didn't have one.  Deep down I felt a little bit guilty writing about food when I was making so very little of it - or even enjoying the process.  (Thanks, school.)

So I switched over to other things and that felt like a nice change.

But then John and I were standing in the DeKalb Farmer's Market in Atlanta, surrounded by fish tanks holding live crabs, lobsters and various strange fish varieties, spices from around the world, endless aisles filled with fruits and vegetables, a reasonably priced gourmet cheese section, artisanal breads and sauces galore. My heart went pitter-patter and I looked at John and whined,

"I miss food."

Which was a nonsensical statement, considering I never miss a meal, but the point was that I miss getting my kitchen messy and producing a meal. I miss the winning feeling that comes with tackling a daunting recipe, the gratification that comes with discovering new varieties of fruit instead of new varieties of restaurants.  (Ya know what I mean?  Thanks, winter!)

So I made myself some avocado toast with a fried egg on top this morning and decided that I would tell you all about it, because it was very tasty (and it combines my three favorite ingredients in the world: bread, eggs and avocado).


(This photo comes directly from Cup of Jo and the process is pretty easy, but I wanted you to know that I like to mash up my avocado in a bowl with a fork and add salt and lemon, then smear it all over rye bread and then add the fried egg on top.  Soooooo good!  You can of course make your own variation.)


Anyway, the point of all this jabber is to declare: there will be more recipes to come!

What the WHAT?! You were at the DeKalb Farmer's Market??? We live 3minutes from there. We walked there the other evening. I can't believe we were so close!!

um... YUM!!! Except I would do a scrambled egg :)
You should come to Texas. A bunch a restaurants make fresh guacamole right in front of you... soooo delicious!

Lydia, I'm so sorry! I had NO idea! Next time we go (which will probably be soon, we are obsessed) I will definitely call you. Promise. Jeez we were probably there at the same time (sunday eve?) and missed each other b/c it is so crowded.
