My Front Porch.

Hi!  I simply wanted to tell you that I hope your weekend is as lovely as this beautiful photograph, (which was captured by Brian of The Blue Hour. Click through to see more of his amazing work!)

P.S.  My goal is to get my front porch to look the exact same.  Especially since our soil is rejecting everything. We'll see!

My two cents: Go with terra cotta pots. First of all, they're porous and allow air and water to pass through. Second, they're cheap--which is important if you leave your pots out during a cold and wet winter and they break, as mine did. Third, you can decorate them to your heart's desire.

Also, with my little potted herb garden, I've learned this year that I probably won't grow cilantro again. It just bolts too quickly.

This is worth more than 2 cents to me, Donn! Thank you for all the awesome tips! I gave up on cilantro a long time back... seemed like when it looked thirsty I watered it and then it hated me for it... Some herbs are just a little too tricky for me! Basil's been a dream...

Anyway, thanks!

Oh, look at all this change rattling around in my pocket!!! I think everybody should have a pot with just mint. It almost always looks lush and can really make up for whatever you might have that's struggling. Parsley takes so long to germinate that I just bought it from the store this year. Also, I hear that dill attracts hornworms, which can really devastate a tomato plant, so placement should always be a consideration. More than anything, I've learned that at the end of the day, disregard the rules and follow your heart's desire. Discovery is part of the fun.
